Craig Ferguson, applied for and was granted honorary American citizenship. He starts his show each night with his "it's a great day in America" proclamation. He has been quoted as saying, "America is not just a donkey and an elephant. It's a flag and an idea." Other famous people who have chosen to become naturalized U.S. citizens include Liam Neeson, Pierce Bronson, Melissa George and Arnold Schwarzenegger and I'm sure there are scores more. This should be enough to prove, to those who denigrate this country, that their feelings and statements towards our great country are unfounded. Until that day arrives, however, the rest of us can take solace knowing that we are blessed. We are American. Fly your flags proudly. Celebrate our Nation's birthday joyously and sing our songs loudly.
If your children do not benefit from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, I suggest you hold your local school district's feet to the fire until they allow it again. Make sure your kids know that we are "One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
