Archives for thought

Savor the memories. Any baseball game can go from ordinary to legendary in a matter of moments. That’s why we watch: the potential of witnessing a transcendent moment. These two photos were taken on film, Sept. 18, 2006, AKA the four + one game. We were so caught up in the craziness of it all that the post-game interview with hero Nomar Garciaparra was the first moment I thought to snap a photo. Also pictured is my long-time Dodger buddy Andrew Nielson. You couldn’t wipe those grins off our faces. I visited his family earlier this year and we spent a good hour re-counting that game, inning by inning. That’s what being a Dodger fan is all about. Thanks for following along on my takeover of the @Dodgers IG. Follow my journey at @jacobhinmon.

I was recently told I need to spice up my feed with more pictures that aren’t just me and I thought that was a wonderful idea so here’s a start to a new feed :-)

11 days ago we made a mad dash out of town to be with family. The following day, my sweet father-in-law, Bob, was admitted to the hospital, and 3 days ago he passed away. If it seems our posts have not been our usual over the past couple of weeks, it’s because our life hasn’t been it’s usual. It’s been hard. Really freaking hard. And confusing and scary and gut wrenching and heart breaking. But I was also told that upon being admitted to the hospital, he was quick to ask the nurses if they’d seen that little girl on CBS earlier in the week … then proudly announced that was HIS granddaughter :) The very next day, Mayhem and I sat in our car in the hospital parking lot decorating paper Christmas trees for his room. And even though she couldn’t go in to visit with him, I’m thankful for the magic of technology that allowed her to be able to FaceTime with him one last time and show him that she was taking excellent care of his dog. The past couple of weeks have been especially brutal on my husband, his mother and his sister. So if you have a prayer, healing thought or good vibe to spare, I’d ask you to send one their way. We’ve got a long road ahead of us to heal from such an incredible and unexpected loss, but we know that smiling and laughing are big keys to our own healing and he’d want us to do as much of that as possible. Thanks for all the love you send our way – you have no idea how many of your comments and emails over the past two weeks have given me the strength I needed (especially on Mayhem’s birthday!) We’re so grateful for you!!!
