Weather In Los Angeles
Los Angeles is surrounded by mountains at one side and ocean on the other side. With highest point being the Mount Lukens which is 1550 meters above sea level, Los Angeles has its share of elevation. With dry summers and wet winters, the weather of Las Angeles can be termed as subtropical Mediterranean climate. The city enjoys year long sunshine and just enough rainfall to avoid being termed as sub arid or arid climate.
An interesting phenomenon of Los Angeles’s weather is the differences in the temperature between the beaches and the valley. This difference aggravates in summers where the difference of temperature between the beach and the valley can reach up to 20° Celsius. The beaches of Los Angeles are always cooler than main land in summers and warmer in the winters keeping the beaches always a comfortable place to be in. Spring season in Los Angeles is actually an extension of the winter where the temperature can touch as low as 10° Celsius. The wind chill factors also play an important role especially when it rains. But if it does not rain, it is really sunny and bright with all the flowers blooming, spring can be the best time to visit Los Angeles.
The summers in Los Angeles are mostly clear and dry. With longer days and shorter nights Los Angeles becomes the place to be in. There is occasional smog in the months of July and August especially in inland and the mountain area. This smog stays till the late afternoon making it inconvenient for the visitors and the residents alike. The average high temperature touches almost 30° Celsius during the day, while the evenings are cool with an average temperature of 18° Celsius.
The months of September and October are considered the autumn months. This is the best months of Los Angeles as the day gets comfortably cooler in these transitional months. During this time, many tourists visit the city and hotels in Los Angeles remain busy. The sky generally remains clear throughout the fall, but in November Los Angeles witnesses slight rainfall which can drastically bring down the temperature. The good thing is it does not rain for long, and as soon as the rain stops the day return back to its normal brilliance and everything looks fresh which makes the scenery very beautiful.
Winters are the wettest months of Los Angeles. The coastal region gets slightly less rain as compared to the mountains. Los Angeles also witnesses occasional heavy winter storm which can bring down the temperature to an uncomfortable levels. But just after the rains and the storms, the sky again gets exceptionally clearer. The average maximum daytime temperature is around a comfortable 18° Celsius. During the nights, the temperatures go as low as 5° Celsius. It is important to protect oneself from the winter and rain. But on clearer days even sunbath can be very refreshing.
